Chikri Woodcraft belongs to Jammu and Kashmir and this craft has been practiced for over a century. Thana Mandi region in Rajouri District is the major center of this woodcraft.
Wood from the chikri tree is used in the making of articles. This particular wood is light honey in color and contains no grains. One of the famous objects made with the chikri wood is the double-sided comb having extremely fine teeth. This variety of comb exhibits a delicate ‘jali’ (mesh) work.
